Facebook Marketing Myths
Online marketing is one of the internet forces that has levelled the playingfield between large and small businesses. However a lot of smaller companies are doing this in-house and sometimes their lack of experience and professional training may lead them into some common social media pitfalls.
So let’s dispel some myths…
Myth One:
The more Fans I have the more products I will sell.
This may be true for very few like Coca-Cola, but it is usually false. Coming up with gimmicks that have nothing to do with the product you sell, and offering people cash prizes or ipads to join your group will not help you sell more products in the long run. Social Media marketing thrives on word-of-mouth or Brand advocacy so unless your fans are really excited about your product they’re very likely to hide your feeds not share them.
This is why it is mich better to have a few likes from people who genuinly want and like your products, people who can share experiences about using your products and genuinely recommend them. This will generate sales. People trust their friends a lot more than they trust advertising… and this brings us to the next myth..
Myth Two:
The more I advertise on facebook the more I will sell.
Using PPC advertising on facebook to push your eCommerce site way work, but this is not Social Media marketing. People use facebook to make their voice heard, they don’t like advertising. Facebook should be a place where your Brand makes friends and shares content and experiences. A place where clients can say what they feel even if it’s a bad review, it’s the way you tackle that makes all the difference. Of course the odd special offer can only reinforce loyalty so offers and freebies are definitely ok. But be sure not to ram your brand down people’s throats because it will backfire.
